  1. Hmmmm....it's possible this user felt the same way. I roo removed the back on my Spider IV 150 and I enjoy the open sound more. I think the combination of removing the back and adding insulation is intriguing. https://line6.com/support/topic/33859-create-a-better-sound/
  2. I agree with what you've noted - lifting the amp directs the sound better. It's just the 240 is so boomy compared to the 120 model. I bring up the same patches on both sides by side and it's noticeable. I think it's the cabinet design. I read about "post EQ", but I didnt think you could move the EQ block to the last of the chain? I really want the 240 for the extra wattage (solid state) I might experiment with Insulation in the rear of the cabinet behind the speakers... I'll let everyone know if I can do some controlled experiments ☺
  3. Hi everyone, One thing I am constantly noticing is the huge bass response from the Spider V 240. It's not as apparent on the 120 model) I am always dialing the bass knob all the way off on the amp models to no avail. I am wondering if it might be an inherent cab resonance on the amp itself? I've read critiques about it sounding like a blanket over the front and wonder if it's the same think we're hearing. My Spider IV is still an impressive amp. Has anyone else felt this way? I would like to own one, and I'm imaging trying to stuff the cab with dampening material or a pillow in order to cut back on the boominess.... Just curious if anyone has tackled this issue....
  4. I had always been wondering about what kind of speaker are included in the Spider V series amps, and I was surprised there was little info available on the internet. I was very curious what the sound of the amp might be like with the back panel off. I really like playing my Spider IV with no rear panel, as well as with a lot of my other amplifiers. I decided to take a look. The speakers have pretty small magnets for a "120 watt" speaker - I don't think they would put out much SPL. I turned the 240 model right up, and it did not feel as loud as my Spider IV 120 amp, but volume is a difficult thing to measure (not to mention it being uncomfortable in the same room at that level!) The electronic mounting plate would not allow me to completely remove the back panel... :( I have to decide whether I would remove the panel or simply modify the back panel so that the speaker compartment would be open. That would be nice, because I could open or close the back depending on what kind of experimenting I would like to do. The inside of the amp is built very nicely, with bracing and ports on the front. The speakers are labelled 300RFL06...a quick look on the internet shows Chunil Corporatin, who make speaker for Line 6 and Marshall. http://www.kicschunil.com/ Here are two profiles of the 300RFL06 speakers - these have different wattage and ohms. http://www.kicschunil.com/product_detail.asp?id=161 http://www.kicschunil.com/product_detail.asp?id=168 The back of the amp Showing the speaker and interior The Tweeter The 120 Watt speaker...very small magnet for a 120 Watt speaker.
  5. Thanks - I guess I could try to get the serial number and then get back to the seller. Sellers are always weird about giving out serial numbers for some reason... There are so many negative reports I am reading now, I am shocked how unaware I was of the problems. I wonder if that is why the DT50 112 is gone now? This kind of reading really put dampened my interest. I might wait to see if I can find a DT25 instead. Much lighter as well...
  6. Hi everyone, Long time Line 6 user here, and I have always been on the look-out to own a used DT series amp (any model might do). I am talking with a local seller who is offering a DT50 112 and his POD HD500 for a very good price. When I asked about the history of the amplifier, he basically said he had not used it in over a year and 1/2. He also mentioned he has never connected his POD HD500 to it! It sounded a bit odd, almost as if he was distancing himself from the amp (I mean, who would buy a POD HD and never use it?) so I decided to look at the history of the DT amps and I found a lot of negative things about reliability and early-production models, etc... I was wondering if there were a certain list of things I could look for when looking at the amp as well as trying it out? I realize there is a lot for me to read on this forum and the internet all at once - I didn't know if any seasoned users could give me a quick summary? Thanks in advance...
  7. I had a look on the internet, and it appears that the Spider V 240 does have 2 speaker outs. See the picture of the rear of the amp here: https://www.long-mcquade.com/74639/Guitars/Guitar-Amps/Line-6/Spider-V-240-Watt-2x12---Guitar-Combo.htm# Well, I got to try a Spider V 60 yesterday. I was happy to see the 30 and 60 model arrive in my local music store, and I am still waiting for when the larger models appear. I am a bit hung-up on 12" speakers... :) - My initial impression was very positive! I had no need to consult the manual, everything was pretty straightforward. I've had years of experience with POD Xt's and X3's so I know how to navigate. It was great to dial in all the different effects and cabs now that they are all built into the amplifier! That is what I was missing on my Spider IV - the ability to change cabs. - The amp sounded great, and I was having a lot of fun playing it. It has all the speaker/mic combinations from running "Studio/Direct" on the PODs, so I assume it is a FRFR speaker system. Perhaps like the one's in the Amplifi or Stagesource? I am still waiting for specs on the speakers. - The 60 model I played had the 10" speaker with closed back. My only concern would be turning it up, as I thought it was beginning to flab-out on the bass when I played louder. I will go back today to try this out one more time. (With all the connections on the rear of the amp, it will be hard to try to convert this amp to an open or semi-open back cabinet. I prefer amps this way, so I will have to do some experimenting when I finally get one) - I was very keen to try the Uni-vibe model, and I think it may have been improved from the XT, X3, and Spider IV models. It sounded pretty good, and I will be trying that effect out again today in detail. It made me wonder if the effects have been brought up to the M9 standard? - I am now hoping that the Spider V 240 is indeed a stereo amp, with the stereo 1/8" input into the back so that I can run my HD400 into it. - The amp looks pretty business-like, and the digital display has vivid and sharp graphics. I'm not too crazy about the different coloring lettering that glows on the front of the amp - it makes the faceplate look a bit juvenile, whereas basic white lettering would have looked more classy. Will write back with more impressions as I get them. All in all, very favorable and a great update to the Spider series. I had no trouble dialing in various genres with this amp as opposed to all the other modeling amps out there...it seems each brand has its great points, but fail in one department or another. (Especially the higher-gain amp models) The Spider IV and V seem to be the most versatile with the least amount of negative aspects to them. The newly added amp models and editing features are very welcome.
  8. I never noticed that - I do run my Spider IV 150 into a 4x12 for kicks sometimes. I guess I could use the XLR outs to go into a speaker cab if necessary?
  9. Curious what speakers they are using for full range? I'm not as particular about the tweeter, but the 12" speaker (s). I know on my Spider IV they are custom Celestions, and I am hoping these new amps are the same. I have always felt that part of the tone comes from using actual guitar speakers. I realize using PA speakers might offer more flexibility for the instruments the S5 can take, but I worry about that "disconnect" feeling a PA speaker might give when playing a guitar. Ultimately I'm sure it will sound good. Look forward to more info.
  10. Having a quick look at the video, all the amps/cabs/and effect models shown were the ones offered on the X3 and XT line. Perhaps the HD models will be avail later or available as a download? I notice that the guy in the video is doing deep-editing on a computer...I wonder if that's how the editing is done? (Computer rather than the amplifier interface?) I hope it can be done all from the amp. I'm not crazy about being tied to a computer when I feel like playing and fiddling about on an amplifier.
  11. Here's the new video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-z_AxwGN72Y
  12. Hi all, Well, as you can imagine, I think we're all pretty stoked about the new Spider V release. It's been quite a while since we've seen a new Spider amp from Line 6. The previous amps that were of interest to me were the old Flextone III series. The Spider's were the next best thing in terms of affordability and so that is where my heart lies. I loved the DT series of amps, but they have always been un-affordable ($1200 CAD for a 25 watt amp!) and the newer Firehawk 1500 is over $1400 CAD... The Amplifi series just didn't do anything for me. The fact I had to do all my editing by a phone was a turn off. So many questions about this Spider V. I hope we can gather all information in one place. My current questions are: - Can the amp do all editing via the front of the amplifier? Is in not dependent on a smart phone? - What amps are modeled? Are they the HD amp models? I think I understand that you can choose cab models which is a real plus...that makes the amp closer to the old Flextone line. - I assume it will be compatible with the current FBV MkII shortboards? If there are any new videos or information, please share so that we can all be on-board.
  13. Finally! I think I've had my Spider IV for 5 years? 6 years? I'd have to check when it first was released. I've been through many modelers but my IV has always been there. (That and a Flextone III....) It mentions that we can choose cabs on the new Spider V (yay!) so now we have to find out what amps are modeled. If anyone finds any additional details, please let us know. I hope they've got an improved uni-vibe model...
  14. - I run all my processors through this one...and the amp models are great too. I must've bought 20 amps in the past five years, but this one has always stayed. Can't wait to see what Line 6 offers next.-
