  1. FYI, if you want to experiment with coding an Arduino based footswitch and would like to avoid building hardware, the Disaster Area Designs DMC 1st gen footswitches are basically an Arduino Nano based device. You can plug one into a computer, bring up the Arduino IDE and set it to Nano, and program away on the footswitch like it is a Nano. The custom PCB inside the DMC has the microcontroller and FTDI USB driver identical to the Nano. I'm currently coding a DMC-6L for a Kemper and AmpliFIre, and will perhaps add a third mode for a Pod XT. There are other projects out there that custom code the Gen 1 DMCs (at one time Disaster used to encourage this).   3. I have a HX Stomp and have owned it for about a year now. I also purchased Native with the special pricing available to Stomp owners around 6 months ago. I am now considering selling the Stomp but still want to use Native. Will there be any consequences to my keeping and using Native if I sell the Stomp and remove it from my account? Thanks.
  4. Thanks for the response. I'm using an Arturia Beatstep's midi out to the midi in of the HX. If I look at the Beatstep into Midiox using a Edirol USB midi interface, it looks correct (note on and note off as expected, and aftertouch if a pad is pressed while being held down after the note on). In the HX, a tap of the pad will cause several pages of midi events, multiple note on and note offs. Also the Beatstep will reliably switch patches and parameters on the HX itself. The HX simply will not reliably pass data from its midi in to an app on the PC. I haven't had any issues with midiox with a working interface, have developed a few midi projects with it and it has proven to be accurate to me. It is easier to troubleshoot with as often say a DAW may have no real feedback to tell if there is a midi issue, where midiox gives you great info if you know what you're looking at. The other app I'm trying to use is Mixcraft 8. When using the HX as a midi interface, the Beatstep as a controller, and using Learn mode in Mixcraft, there are very intermittent and erratic results. However if the HX is removed and the Edirol installed, the Beatstep can easily and reliably control Mixcraft. It is clear in my troubleshooting that the HX is at fault, and it looks like a bug, unless the HX is not intended to be a midi interface for a PC.
  5. Hello all, am having problems getting the HX to work as a midi interface on a Win10 tablet. It works perfectly as an audio interface for the tablet, and controller midi input will operate the HX itself, but the midi does not work as an interface to the tablet. I have tried all combinations of settings in MIdi/Tempo Global Settings, and the only way I can get midi in to an application (such as midiox) is to set USB Midi to On, and Midi Thru to On. If I set it this way, a midi controller input to the HX will cause a large number of spurious events that can only be stopped by turning Midi Thru or USB Midi to Off. It's almost as if there is a midi feedback loop going. In any other parameter setup there is no midi input to the PC app. Midiox is recognizing the HX Stomp as a midi device in its settings as well. So I'm a bit stuck, any help would be appreciated. The firmware version in the HX is 2.71.0. Thanks.
  6. If you want to make everything louder or quieter, I think you can map a controller to the fixed output block volume. If you want to control the output of the amp but not the effects post amp (my preferred configuration), you can map a controller to the Channel Volume of the amp block. This method is good for volume swells from the amp block into a post-amp effects chain.

I've found that the older TremSetter can significantly help with the sustain of a floating block guitar: http://store.hipshotproducts.com/cart.php?m=product_detail&p=115 For a time I would install one in every floating block guitar I had (even a 1990 PRS Custom that needed no help with tuning stability), just for the tonal and sustain improvement. It makes the trem feel different, but it is a nice compromise between blocking the trem and leaving it full floating. From my brief look inside a JTV69s trem cavity, I see no reason why it wouldn't work in one. FWIW, as a primarily Gibson player, I adore the neck on the JTV69s. It's terrific IMHO, but definitely unique. However it's easy to see that a person that likes a more Fender vintage feel might not like it.
  8. His issue was more of an intermittent out of tune sound on the high E in Variax mode only (sounded fine with passive pickups). He is lost on instrument technical issues, and I was out of town and wasn't able to help with the problem. It is too bad as he is a fantastic slide player, and went ape when I handed him my JTV59 in open G resonator. Since he plays in multiple tunings and wants a variety of tones, the Variax is the perfect choice for him.
  9. Wish I would have heard of this issue a few days ago; my friend bought a used JTV after playing mine, and his had the issue. He returned it due to the problem. Too bad it is such a quick fix and we didn't try it.
  10. Hello, at our church we wish to equip the bassist with a G30 wireless unit. In the future we may add more G30's to other instrumentalists. However, on the same stage, we are currently using 10 XD-V75 mics. Should we expect any problems with the G30 causing or receiving interference from the multiple XD mics? I hope the answer is no, we are thrilled with the XD mics and the G30 looks to be a terrific wireless as well. Thanks for your help.
  11. I received the second Guitar Center used Shortboard today, but it isn't a MkII (although it was advertised as such). GC just can't seem to get this right. So I now have an Express and a Shortboard, but both are MkI's and do not have USB ports. My needs for a pedalboard can be met by the Shortboard MkI, and I am tired of fighting GC, so I'm afraid I'll have to bow out of the experiment for now. Sorry guys.
  12. I do have an Express, but it is the MKI with no USB port, so we can't use it in this experiment. Turns out GC had another supposed Shortboard MkII at another store, I ordered that and hope it will be in this week. Again I'll give it a shot as soon as it arrives and let you know what I find out.

Unfortunately the folks at Guitar Center do not seem to know the difference between a FBV Shortboard and an Express, they advertised the pedal as a Shortboard but what they had turned out to be an Express when I went to pick it up. So I'm afraid I don't have one to work with and test after all. Maybe others here can help going forward.
  14. Do you have a powered usb hub between the FBV and the iPad? I can't imagine the iPad could power the FBV by itself, iPads are notoriously finicky about powering external devices through the camera adapter. Also, what version of iOS is on your iPad, and what version iPad is it? Usually the "not supported device" error is bad news, as it means the attached device is not class compliant, but we know the FBV is. Maybe the FBV power needs are on the edge of what the iPad can supply, and it is getting conflicting data on whether it can power the FBV or not. FWIW I have successfully used the Belkin F4U040 powered USB hub (available off the shelf at Best Buy) and Apple camera kit adapter to attach multiple class compliant USB devices to an iPad 2 with iOS 7. It was able to connect both a Roland/Edirol midi interface (with advanced driver turned off) and a Tascam IUR2 audio interface (set to PC mode) to the camera adapter, and both worked very well with Positivegrid's Jamup Pro. The pedal used in this setup was a Behringer FCB1010. I plan to try the Belkin USB hub with the MKII shortboard and a camera adapter with my iPad 2, and will report the results here in the next few days.
  15. Another thing you can do is buy the cheapest used Line 6 product with a FBV input and midi jacks (such as a block logo Pod 2.0 or XT), and use it as a FBV to midi converter. Most all Line 6 products with midi jacks and FBV input will output midi messages according to what function is selected on the FBV board. You can often buy used Pod XT's for approximately $70, and pod 2.0's for a bit less on ebay or Guitar Center. I have tried this with a FBV Express and Pod 2.0 and XT, however I am not sure if all functions on the FBV Shortboard will be translated by the Pod 2.0. Here's another product that might work, a company called Disaster Area Designs is working on a USB class compliant midi to 5 pin midi converter. It isn't released yet apparently, but it might be the perfect box to convert the shortboard USB to 5 pin midi.
