  1. I was not able to find any documentation about this anywhere else, so I discovered it the hard way. I summarize here as tech notes to possibly save someone else some time. My setup: JTV 69 with HD firmware v2.10 HD500 with HD firmware v2.20 Tech Notes: For trouble free HD500 preset editing, do the following prep: Connect JTV to HD500 using VDI cable Powerup HD500 Connect HD500 to computer using USB cable provided TURN ON the model knob on the JTV when you are ready to edit your preset Variax presets on the HD500 save the ON-OFF state of the model knob. It MUST be ON (lit) to operate the model and alternate tuning instructions and process the signals correctly in your preset. You can now develop your preset to control the JTV in the SETUP and FX screens or in the HD Edit application. Custom tunings are handled on the MIXER tab in the HD500 Edit app. You can control the inputs on the main FX screen and mix both signals in the same preset if you wish. I run the JTV, a Bass, and a Violin through my HD500 with different presets for each. I have a standard tune preset and an alternate tune preset for the JTV based on Shawn Halley's Dream Rig Tip #2 video and download from Custom Tone board. At our Church due to how the Mic cords are routed my HD500 is behind me. Usually I don't mess with it until I switch instruments and preset to match. However, with the JTV, I need to modify the Drive on the Distortion live in some songs so I control the drive using EXP2 with a 20 foot instrument cable routed so that the pedal can be in front of me so I don't have to turn around. I use EXP1 to control the mix of model and mags from the JTV. I wasn't sure how to do that, so I did it by using EXP1 to control both amps in opposite directions, which will be apparent if you examine the preset in the HD500 Edit app. I will post my JTV presets so you can see how they work. Good luck, everybody. It works as advertised, but as I always say, you've got to be smarter than the tool... :->
